Nikki and I went out to eat with the girls this past weekend and for once – all four of us were sitting there, peacefully eating our dinner…it was simply amazing. Nikki looked over to me and commented, “What is going on here?”
I quickly realized, we were having a “moment”!
There was no fighting over princess figurines. And no heated discussion over who’s Anna and who’s Elsa. No whining. For about a 2 minute period, it seemed as though Annie and Tessa had transcended “toddlerdom”.
Instead, there was simply laughter and smiling, and the sound of chewing delicious food.
I know, hard to believe if you have kids!
I’m calling it “The Miracle Dinner” and commemorating it here on this blog. I’d love to have some more of them! (And I want to be able to remember that this actually happened!)
As a side note, when these moments (hitting the “peaceful night out to dinner” landmark) occur, it makes it feel like the girls are growing up fast.
But on the other hand, time travels so slow. When Annie was a 1-year-old, my wise friend Tom shared this with me about raising kids, “David, the days are long, but the years are short.”
How much truth is in that statement!
